Creating an Eating Foundation

We should all be conscious about how to create a foundation of health built from good nutrition.  This is not a quest for the perfect food, but rather a quest for cultivating a relationship with food that fosters spiritual, emotional and physical health.  Fall is the perfect time to begin.  The harvest season is about taking in.  Taking in the idea that as women we are entitled to be fulfilled and nourished.  That we need not go through life with our half-filled.

Creating a foundational eating plan begins with you.  At the center of the healthfulness of body and mind is nutritional wellness.  And yet too many women seem to eat with the idea that just getting by is enough, or with a lack of intention around eating, or sometimes both.  Creating a foundational eating plan means that you focus on foods that are nutritious and delicious, foods that support your unique body.  That you eat to enjoy, empower, and energize your body, mind and spirit.

At the core, healthy eating promotes energy metabolism, good digestion, immune function, cellular integrity, mediation of inflammation and oxidative stress and overall wellbeing.  We can create a clear and free mind and body by supporting our body through healthy food practices.

How to start:

Get clear about your eating - Write a food narrative.  What does your current eating say about you?  If it were your food story, how would it read to the world around you?

Focus on your intention - What would you like from your eating.  What would you need to do to in your life to create space for that to occur?

Be curious about your cravings - Our body’s cravings are often messages about a greater need.  Be curious about a craving for a certain food.  Look for patterns in your eating.  Be mindful of needs our body might be expressing through food desires.  There is often a bigger appetite at work.  Some times our body is missing an important nutrient need to support our body’s unique needs.

Engage your senses - Tune in and pay attention to your eating.  Let this begin with your shopping experience; do not just wander aimlessly.  It continues with your food preparation practices.  And it extends to your eating environment.  Cultivate an environment that invites healthy eating.

Respect your body - Our body has great wisdom around hunger and fullness.  Learning to listen is an important part of discovering self wisdom.

Keep Eating Fun - Enjoyment from eating is a very important part of cultivating a respectful relationship with food and our bodies.  Nutrition should be delicious medicine.

The human body heals itself and nutrition provides the resources to accomplish the task. Roger Williams Ph.D. (1971).

So whether your food quest is one of healing a specific condition, or one of simply supporting your body, good nutrition is the foundation to health and vitality.  In support of your personal health and wellness journey individual assessments and recommendations are made honoring each person’s unique needs.  Individual phone consultations include an in-depth integrative nutritional assessment with careful attention to your health and medical history, as well as your personal fitness and wellness goals.  As personalized nutrition plan, reflecting your specific goals, will be emailed to you within 2 weeks of your phone consultation.  Contact Kimberly Evans, RD @ 802-658-9440 (ext 103) or via email Kimberly@vtcyt.com.  Follow me on my blog at kimberlyevansrd.com
